Error - 'Could Not Determine Recipient Address' when Submitting/Approving/Rejecting purchase transaction (PR)

This error indicates that for the Approval Stage you are Submitting to, Approving on, Rejecting from there are 'Alerts' configured which are setup to 'Alert' a specific user.

This could be alerting the 'Initiator' of the PR, the next 'Approver' of the PR, or any other user within FinOps.

The Error means that for whomever was designated as the 'recipient' of that 'Alert' they do not have a Email Address on their FinOps user record.

All users in FinOps should have an Email Address against their record (and will usually be their Workspace Email Address).

This is hard coded into the application, when you initially invite a new member into Workspace, so that their 'Unique' Email address is carried over into their FinOps user record.

You are not able to Edit or remove the Email Address from a FinOps user in FinOps Administrator.

To resolve this issue - our support team will need to investigate, run scripts or liaise with the hosting or development teams. Any Issues with contacting us, please see the following Get support in Financial Operations.

**please include with your query the PR Number

First step — check the user's email address in Financials

Although you cannot edit the email address in FinOps Administrator, it can be checked and updated in Financials at System, Security, Users. See the Error - 'no email address configured for recipient name' article for the steps to find and update the email address there.

If the email address is correct and the error persists

If the user's email is correctly set in Financials but the error continues, contact the support team and include:

  • The PR or purchase transaction reference number.

  • The name or username of the user whose email address is missing from their FinOps record.

  • The approval stage at which the error occurs.
